Here we are with our second instalment of ‘Media Spotlight: 3 Questions with…’.

This is where we go inside the newsrooms and speak with journalists and producers from across Australia to get their insights on what they look for in a good story and their expert tips on how best to pitch the media.

This week we speak with Katherine Feeney, ABC Radio Afternoons Presenter – Brisbane and Queensland

  1. Please explain your role within the newsroom:

I present the state-wide afternoons program for ABC local radio, covering news, analysis and light entertainment.

  1. What do you look for in a good story?

I look for something that has immediate relevance to the listener; something that cuts through at a personal level.

  1. What advice do you have for small businesses who are pitching the media for the very first time?

Make sure your story is a story – something that generates an ‘ah’ moment (as in, ‘ah!’ I didn’t know that; ‘ah!’ I’m so glad I now know that; or ‘ah!’ that makes me feel something…) hopefully in a good way.
